Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem
Johannes Brahms called his requiem a “Human Requiem.” Indeed, the words of his own choosing combine to console, comfort, and lift the souls of the living. Sibelius' dramatic Symphony No.3, Andantino con moto, quasi allegretto, and Carlos Simon’s Elegy: A Cry from the Grave (written to honor the wrongful deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown) make this powerful presentation by the Cathedral Choirs and Orchestra a unique and much-needed moment in time.
Musica Sacra sings Oquin and Shaw
Musica Sacra concludes the 2025-26 season with the world premiere of Wayne Oquin’s On the Words of Walt Whitman for soloists, chorus and chamber orchestra, with Susanna Phillips and John Moore. Oquin’s cantata spans the totality of Walt Whitman’s poetry—from the iconic Song of Myself to lesser-known gems written later in his life.
The program also features Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte and Oquin’s beautiful a cappella works including O Magnum Mysterium, Alleluia and Sure on this shining night.
